Supreme Court reprimands Rahul, if he were a true Indian, he would not have raised the issue of Chinese land grab
The Supreme Court has asked where Congress leader Rahul Gandhi got the information that 2,000 square kilometers of Indian territory in Galwan in eastern Ladakh is occupied by China. During the hearing of a case on Monday, the Supreme Court judges reprimanded the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul and said that a real Indian would not make such a comment.
Supreme Court reprimands Rahul, if he were a true Indian, he would not have raised the issue of Chinese land grab
Two Supreme Court judges, Dipankar Dutta and A G Masih, made this comment and wanted to know where Rahul got that information from? Does he have any credible evidence to support the allegations? Did Rahul go there? The judges told Rahul that if there is freedom of speech, everything cannot be said. Questions that need to be asked in Parliament cannot be asked on social media. The case is old. The India-China clash took place in Galwan in 2020. 20 Indian soldiers were killed in that clash. During the Bharat Jodo Yatra in 2023, Rahul alleged that China had occupied 2,000 square kilometers of land. He also said that the Chinese army had severely beaten Indian soldiers in Arunachal Pradesh.
Border Roads Organization (BRO) Director Uday Shankar Srivastava filed a defamation case against Rahul in the Lucknow MP MLA Court for that remark. The plaintiff alleged that Rahul’s remark was disrespectful to the Indian Army. The soldiers were defamed.
The lower court accepted the case against Rahul and sent him a summons. Rahul filed an appeal against it in the Allahabad High Court. The High Court dismissed the appeal on May 29 and upheld the order of the lower court. Then Rahul approached the Supreme Court. Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice A G Masih ordered that the High Court’s order be stayed for three weeks. The Supreme Court has sent notices to the plaintiff and the Uttar Pradesh government.
Supporting Rahul’s side and in view of the judges’ comments, lawyer Abhishek Singhvi said, “It is the responsibility of the opposition leader to mention what is being published in the media. Otherwise, he does not have the qualifications to be the opposition leader. A true Indian should also say that 20 of our soldiers have been beaten to death and that incident is worrying.”
After the Galwan clash, there was a lot of talk that China has occupied Indian land in eastern Ladakh. The talks that are still going on between the two countries are to restore the pre-conflict status quo. Although there has been an agreement in some cases, the status quo has not yet returned. The areas where Indian soldiers used to patrol before the clash, they cannot now. Although the Prime Minister of India said that China has not occupied Indian land.
The opposition, including Rahul, is not willing to accept that. During the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul said that it is clear that China is sitting on Indian land. This should not be tolerated. Talking to some former soldiers, he said that China had occupied 2,000 square kilometers of Indian land during the conflict. A delegation from Ladakh also made the same allegation.
The government did not accept the allegation. The government also accused Rahul of giving wrong information. However, the government has not yet given permission to the parliamentary delegation to go to Galwan.
